According to Tarz Press, citing CTV News, David Lowery was detained by the Taliban last Monday at Kabul Airport. The report further stated that Lowery was arrested after traveling to Afghanistan. The Canadian Foreign Affairs Department has confirmed awareness of the incident and is working to resolve the matter through diplomatic channels.
Who is David Lowery?
Canadian media reports indicate that David Lowery is a former officer in the Canadian Armed Forces and currently the head of a private security company in Canada. He is said to have traveled to Kabul multiple times since the fall of Afghanistan and provided advisory services through his security company.
The Canadian media revealed that Lowery assisted over 100 Afghans in evacuating Afghanistan during Canada’s evacuation efforts in August 2021. CTV News further reported that the Taliban were aware of Lowery’s activities in Kabul for several years. However, the Taliban have not made any statements regarding this arrest.
