Tarz Press has obtained an audio recording of Sirajuddin Haqqani, a top Taliban leader, expressing alarm over rogue killings within the group’s ranks.

In the recording, Haqqani says: “I tell everyone security is in place, a general amnesty is granted—but then someone steps up, kills people at checkpoints and on roads, and all our words turn to lies.”

It’s unclear when or where Haqqani made these remarks, though he implies prominent political figures—like former Afghan President Hamid Karzai, Abdullah Abdullah, and Gulbuddin Hekmatyar—were present at the meeting. He presses the Taliban to move past old grudges, stating, “You must pledge with me not to shame each other or harm innocent Muslims for no reason.”

The comments come amid recurring reports of arbitrary killings and civilian harassment by Taliban fighters during their rule. Haqqani bluntly admits that under Taliban control, Afghans lack both security and a safe haven for their lives. Citing Islamic history, he notes that even non-believers in Mecca enjoyed safety.

The recording highlights growing rifts among Taliban leaders over security, policy, and governance—cracks that appear to widen by the day.
