Senior officials in Uzbekistan have stated that the Taliban government is fighting international terrorism within its capabilities, with Taliban intelligence forces on the front lines against ISIS.
Tarz Press – Abdusalom Azizov, head of Uzbekistan's State Security Service, made these remarks at the general meeting of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) conference. The conference, which began on September 3, will continue until September 6. Sources have informed Tarz Press that Taliban representatives are also present at the meeting.
Azizov emphasized that member countries must be committed to unified actions against international terrorism and religious extremism. He added, "We must not leave our Afghan partners alone in this matter, and based on the principle of integrated security, it is essential to defeat the enemy together."
Azizov believes that cooperation between Tashkent and Kabul in the fight against ISIS is crucial because, in his view, weakening joint efforts could strengthen ISIS, thereby endangering regional security. He assured that "only through coherent and coordinated activities based on mutual support, regular exchange of information and experiences in combating international terrorism, extremism, and cyber threats can we make significant progress in ensuring stability and security in our countries."
This statement comes amid rapidly changing geopolitical dynamics in the region, prompting member countries of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization to reconsider their strategies. ISIS activities and attacks in Afghanistan have been escalating, with the most recent attack occurring on Monday this week in Kabul, resulting in six deaths and 13 injuries.
