The Taliban have stated that Russia, with its advanced military equipment and technology, is one of the world's most powerful countries, and they intend to request air defense systems from Moscow.
Tarz Press:
A senior official from the Taliban's Ministry of Defense made these remarks in an exclusive interview with Russia's TASS news agency, saying that while the Taliban possess the necessary military equipment for ground defense in Afghanistan, they currently lack any equipment for defending their airspace.
Abdul Basir Saberi, the head of logistics for the Ministry, told TASS on Thursday, August 29, that the Taliban do not have control over Afghanistan's airspace and need air defense systems and airspace control equipment to establish it. He added, "When the conditions are right, we will obtain this equipment from you."
Saberi also mentioned to TASS that the military equipment received from the United States is being used for border security and that they have all the necessary weapons for ground security. The Taliban defense official emphasized that Russia and Afghanistan are neighbors and should fully support each other. This comes amid recent reports that unknown combat drones have repeatedly violated Afghanistan's airspace.
