UNESCO, the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, has reported that the Taliban government has deliberately deprived at least 1.4 million girls of education.

Tarz Press – In a report published today, Thursday, August 15, marking the third anniversary of the Taliban's takeover, UNESCO warned that the future of an entire generation of Afghan girls is at risk. The report states that of the 2.5 million girls who were attending school before the Taliban came to power, 80 percent have been denied the right to education and barred from attending school. UNESCO has cautioned that the consequences of depriving girls of education could lead to an increase in child labor and early marriages.

In its report, UNESCO called on the international community to work together to reopen schools and universities for Afghan girls and women unconditionally. The organization urged that the Taliban must be persuaded to lift these bans and reopen educational institutions.

As the third anniversary of the Republic's fall and the Taliban's rule passes, girls above the sixth grade remain barred from schools, and universities are closed to female students. Despite national and international outcries and protests demanding the reopening of schools, these calls have gone unheard, and the Taliban have refused to lift these restrictions.
