The Taliban have responded to the recent United Nations report, stating that concerns about the presence and activities of ISIS in Afghanistan are a form of campaigning for the group that should be stopped.
Tarz Press – Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban spokesperson, dismissed the UN's concerns about the widespread presence of ISIS in Afghanistan and its potential to become a significant threat, calling them "baseless propaganda." He claimed that these efforts are aimed at misleading the public.
On Friday, August 9, Mujahid wrote on X that Taliban forces have been actively combating ISIS and that the group has been suppressed in Afghanistan. He further stated in his tweet that Afghanistan's territory is now fully under Taliban control, and no "rogue foreign or domestic group" is allowed to engage in destructive activities. He added, "Despite the security, stability, and strong security forces in Afghanistan, expressing concerns about the presence and activities of ISIS or other groups is a form of campaigning for them that must be stopped."
Zabihullah Mujahid described the UN report on ISIS presence in Afghanistan as an attempt to distort and confuse public opinion, emphasizing that the Taliban will not allow anyone to use Afghan soil against the security of other countries. This response comes after the UN Deputy Secretary-General presented a report to the Security Council on Thursday, stating that the "financial and logistical capabilities of ISIS-Khorasan" have recently improved. He also mentioned that ISIS-Khorasan has infiltrated Taliban security institutions and is expanding its influence into Central Asia.
