The New York Times reported that the intelligence agency of the Revolutionary Guard Corps has arrested 24 senior security and intelligence officers in connection with the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in northern Tehran.
According to the New York Times, citing two informed Iranian officials, those arrested include senior intelligence and security officers, military officials, and staff from the Revolutionary Guard's secure guesthouse in northern Tehran. Last Thursday, the New York Times reported, based on informed security sources, that Ismail Haniyeh was assassinated by a bomb planted in his room, which was detonated after confirming his presence in the targeted room. Following this report, the Revolutionary Guard arrested senior intelligence and security officers responsible for the security of this guesthouse.
It is still unclear how the bomb was planted in Ismail Haniyeh's room and what source of information was used, but the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh in the heart of Tehran, in one of the heavily guarded guesthouses of the Revolutionary Guard, has raised many questions about the capabilities of Iran's security and intelligence apparatus.
