The Taliban-controlled Arg page on Facebook has reported that the Taliban's Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs discussed the issues of Afghan refugees, among other topics, with the Iranian Interior Minister.
According to Tarz Press, Abdul Kabir, the Taliban's Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs, met with Ahmad Vahidi, Iran's Interior Minister, on Tuesday in Tehran to discuss cooperation regarding Afghan refugees in Iran, drug trafficking, and border management. The statement released by the Arg page did not provide further details on the outcomes of the discussions regarding Afghan refugees. Currently, the topic of Afghan refugees is more significant than any other issue. Videos circulating on social media show Iranian citizens engaging in street confrontations with Afghan refugees. Human rights organizations have strongly reacted to this issue. Amrullah Saleh, the first vice president of former Afghan President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, also published an open letter urging the Iranian government to clarify this matter. The government of the Islamic Republic of Iran has yet to comment on the mistreatment and humiliation of Afghan refugees by Iranian citizens. The Taliban have also remained silent on this issue so far.
The Taliban-controlled Arg page wrote that Abdul Kabir, the Taliban's Deputy Prime Minister for Political Affairs, told the Iranian Interior Minister that Afghanistan supports good relations and interaction with its neighbors.
