Following the Taliban's declaration that the consular services of Afghan embassies in several countries are invalid, the Afghan ambassador to Tajikistan clarified that this decision does not impact the operations of the Afghan embassy in Tajikistan.
Zahir Aghbar, the Afghan ambassador to Tajikistan, responded to the Taliban's decision, stating, "This is extortion and exploitation of the suffering of Afghans living abroad, and it will have no impact on the work of the Afghan embassy in Tajikistan."
On Tuesday, the Taliban's Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the consular services of 14 Afghan political and consular representations, including those in Tajikistan, Europe, Canada, and Australia, are now invalid. The Ministry claimed these embassies have been operating without coordination with the Taliban's Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In response to the Taliban's announcement, the Afghan embassy in Tajikistan expressed concern that this decision would cause "more pain and confusion for displaced and refugee compatriots." While the embassy emphasized its commitment to continue its work, it did not provide specifics on how it will address the concerns of Afghan citizens regarding the legitimacy of their legal documents. The Taliban have not yet responded to the statements made by the Afghan embassy in Tajikistan.
