Amrullah Saleh, the former vice president of Afghanistan under Mohammad Ashraf Ghani, has reacted to the humiliation and mistreatment of Afghan refugees in Iran, stating that crime is an individual act and should not lead to general animosity towards the innocent.

Recently, videos and images circulated on social media showing Afghan refugees being mistreated and humiliated by Iranian citizens. These videos depict street-level actions against suspects and detainees rather than through official legal channels.
In response, Saleh has sent an open letter to the Iranian government, demanding an explanation. In the letter, shared on his X (formerly Twitter) account, he emphasized the need for the Iranian government to clarify the root cause of these issues to prevent judgments based on social media content alone. Saleh noted that Iranian national media, law enforcement, judicial authorities, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs have not provided any explanations regarding these reports. Consequently, public opinion is being shaped by the unpleasant scenes shared on social media.
Saleh stated: "National media and law enforcement, judicial authorities, and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Islamic Republic of Iran have not provided any explanations regarding these reports. Therefore, people's judgments and opinions are based on the unpleasant scenes shared on social media."
The Iranian government has yet to respond to Saleh's open letter, and the Taliban have also remained silent regarding the mistreatment of Afghan refugees.
