Shehbaz Sharif, the Prime Minister of Pakistan, implied that the use of Afghan soil against Pakistan is no longer tolerable. According to Tarz Press, Sharif made these remarks on Wednesday, July 24, at a cabinet meeting in Pakistan.
While he did not specifically name a country, his reference was implicitly to Afghanistan. He said, "We have cared for tens of thousands of their refugees for 40 years without ever saying it would negatively impact our economy, but instead, we are being harmed as Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan operates from their soil against us." Sharif also expressed concern over increasing insecurity in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and added that recent attacks on Pakistani soldiers and civilians have caused casualties. "This is no longer tolerable for us. However, we will strive to resolve this issue through dialogue," he added. The Taliban have not yet responded to Sharif's statements, but they have previously stated unequivocally that Afghan soil will not be used against any neighbor.
