Following the adoption of relatively strict policies by the international community towards Afghanistan, it seems that the Taliban are also growing tired of this approach and are calling on the international community to act "responsibly" towards Afghanistan.
Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Taliban's Foreign Minister, criticized the international community, stating it is "laughable" that the world only gives orders without offering cooperation. He made these remarks on Tuesday, July 23, at a National Labor Conference, emphasizing that the international community and Afghanistan's neighboring countries have not fulfilled their responsibilities towards Afghanistan. Muttaqi claimed that the Taliban have ensured security and fought against militant groups like ISIS, but the international community has done nothing so far. He added, "Now people have security, but the main issue is work and the economy. Reducing poverty and unemployment is not solely the responsibility of the Taliban; the international community must also help."
According to Muttaqi, the Taliban's fight against drug trafficking is a significant achievement, but the international community has not fulfilled its responsibilities in providing alternative livelihoods to Afghan farmers and treating addicts. He said, "The international community has not fulfilled its responsibility in this regard." Meanwhile, the international community has seemingly conditioned any cooperation with Afghanistan on the implementation of the Doha peace agreement, particularly the rights of Afghan women to education and work—issues on which the Taliban have yet to take concrete steps.
