The U.S. State Department has denied reports claiming that Washington is providing financial support to the Taliban, calling these claims completely unfounded.
Matthew Miller, the U.S. State Department spokesperson, stated on Monday, July 22, in a press conference that the possibility of the Taliban accessing U.S. aid to Afghanistan is entirely baseless. He emphasized, "When it comes to U.S. financial aid to the Taliban, we do not provide any funding to the Taliban."
The Taliban also denied receiving U.S. financial aid and have repeatedly called for the lifting of sanctions and the release of Afghanistan's frozen funds in the World Bank. Despite previous reports of U.S. aid packages to the Taliban, the Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction (SIGAR) recently reported that the U.S. has provided over $17 billion in aid to Afghanistan since August 30, 2021.
