Following U.S. President Joe Biden's announcement that he will not run for re-election, his rival Donald Trump responded, saying Biden was never qualified and should not have run in the first place.
According to Tarz Press, Biden stated on Sunday that he made this "difficult decision" for the country and its people. He also announced his support for Vice President Kamala Harris as the Democratic Party's candidate. Harris expressed gratitude to Biden and pledged to do everything possible to defeat Trump.
Trump claimed that defeating Harris would be easier than defeating Biden, calling Biden the "worst" president in U.S. history and accusing his policies of harming the country. Biden's withdrawal elicited varied reactions, with opponents criticizing and supporters praising the move as "patriotic." House Speaker Mike Johnson, a Republican, tweeted that if Biden is unfit for the presidential race, he should resign immediately. Former President Barack Obama praised Biden as one of the most impactful presidents and a true patriot. The Democratic Party is likely to support Kamala Harris, with key figures like Obama and Hillary Clinton backing her candidacy.
