CNN, an American media outlet, reported that in response to increasing Russian threats, several European countries have reinstated or expanded mandatory military service.
According to Tarz Press, CNN noted that this is part of military policies designed to strengthen European defense systems, and this trend is likely to continue. Robert Hamilton, Head of Eurasia Research at the Foreign Policy Research Institute, told CNN, "We have realized that we may need to organize a call-up for war and expand the production of military equipment, recruitment, and training of personnel."
General Wesley Clark, former NATO Allied Commander in Europe, referenced the Ukraine war and told CNN, "The risks of a larger war in Europe have increased." He emphasized that this is an imminent warning to NATO to rebuild its defense system, and compulsory military service is one of the ways to achieve this.
