Protests in Bannu district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa continued for a second day after police shot at demonstrators on Friday, resulting in five deaths and 23 injuries.
According to Tarz Press, the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM) announced a sit-in in front of police headquarters today, Saturday. On Friday, July 19, Pakistani police fired directly at protesters, causing fatalities and injuries. Officials at Khyber Pakhtunkhwa state hospital reported that some of the injured are in critical condition. Barrister Saif, spokesperson for the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government, told the BBC that the incident of shooting at a "peaceful march" will be investigated. He said, "Those involved in the shooting will be found and punished according to the law."
The protests were sparked by Pakistani soldiers shooting at civilians after their military base came under a suicide attack by Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) in Bannu.
