U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken made an unprecedented statement, announcing that Iran is only "one or two weeks" away from gathering and producing the necessary capabilities to build a nuclear weapon.
According to Tarz Press, he made these remarks on Friday, July 19, at a security conference in Colorado, USA, and confirmed the Islamic Republic of Iran's potential as a regional power. He added, "Instead of being at least a year away from the capability to produce the facilities for a nuclear weapon, Iran is now likely only one or two weeks away from this capability. Blinken also stated that "in recent weeks and months, we have seen real progress by the Islamic Republic in its nuclear program."
This U.S. official also clarified that the Islamic Republic has not yet produced a "nuclear weapon." Meanwhile, on Wednesday, the U.S. National Security Advisor also commented on the matter, saying, "I have not seen a decision by Iran to move in that direction that would indicate they have truly decided to build a nuclear bomb now." Apparently, these statements by American officials are in response to remarks made by Massoud Pezeshkian, who, after winning the presidential seat, announced that he is striving with full force for "Iran's exit from isolation" and the revival of the 2015 nuclear agreement between the Islamic Republic and the world powers.
