The Afghanistan Journalists Support Organization (AJSO) reports that the Taliban have once again arrested independent journalist Mohammad Yar Majrooh in Kandahar and demands his immediate release.
According to Tarz Press, AJSO's statement condemns the illegal detention and urges current authorities to respect freedom of expression and release the journalist without delay or conditions. The statement also calls on all human rights organizations to raise their voices and take steps for the release of all imprisoned journalists. AJSO highlights that journalists in Afghanistan face severe threats and lack independence, freedom of expression, economic support, and access to information. The organization warns that continued censorship and restrictions will turn Afghanistan into a dark spot in terms of freedom of expression and access to information. The Taliban government has not commented on this matter yet. Attempts to get their response were unsuccessful.
