Taliban security officials report that a 40-year-old woman has committed suicide in the center of Badakhshan province. Ehsanullah Kamgar, spokesperson for the Taliban's provincial police headquarters in Badakhshan, stated on Tuesday, July 9, that the woman was a resident of the Deh Payan Chata area in Faizabad city. She ended her life by ingesting rodent poison yesterday. Kamgar mentioned that the woman passed away after being transferred to the provincial hospital. He added that the reason for her suicide was family issues and that investigations have begun regarding the matter.
Since the Taliban took control of Afghanistan, and with the subsequent increase in poverty and unemployment, incidents of suicide among the public, particularly among women and girls, have risen. This event follows an incident approximately nine days ago in Badakhshan province where a young man committed suicide by ingesting rodent poison ‘due to family problems’.
