The national teams of Spain and Germany faced off in the quarterfinals of Euro 2024, with Spain ultimately winning 2-1 and eliminating the host, Germany, from the competition.
According to "Taraz Press," both teams, previously considered main contenders for the Euro championship, showcased an evenly matched first half without creating serious threats on goal, ending with Spain having a slight edge. In the second half, it was Spain's substitute Dani Olmo who scored in the 55th minute. Following Spain's goal, the Germans intensified their efforts, attempting to avoid defeat at home in front of thousands of their supporters. Germany, deploying three forwards, sought to escape defeat, and in the 88th minute, substitute Wirtz scored the equalizer for Germany. With the score tied at the end of regulation, the match went into extra time. However, the game did not end there. In the final seconds of the second extra time, Spain scored the second goal from a cross, thus securing their place in the semifinals of Euro 2024 by eliminating the powerful host team.
