Following Spain's goal, the Germans intensified their efforts, attempting to avoid defeat at home in front of thousands of their supporters. Germany, deploying three forwards, sought to escape defeat, and in the 88th minute, substitute Wirtz scored the equalizer for Germany. With the score tied at the end of regulation, the match went into extra time. However, the game did not end there. In the final seconds of the second extra time, Spain scored the second goal from a cross, thus securing their place in the semifinals of Euro 2024 by eliminating the powerful host team.
