Following U.S. President Donald Trump’s announcement of the arrest of the mastermind behind the Kabul airport suicide attack, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif confirmed his country’s role in the operation, stating that the main suspect was apprehended with Pakistan’s assistance.

Speaking on Wednesday, March 5, Sharif welcomed Trump’s appreciation and reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to counterterrorism cooperation with Washington. He noted that the suspect was captured in the border region between Afghanistan and Pakistan.

U.S. officials identified the detainee as Mohammad Sharif, a key Daesh (ISIS) leader operating in Afghanistan and Pakistan. American media reports indicate that Mohammad Sharif was arrested in a joint operation by the CIA and Pakistan’s military intelligence. He is expected to be transferred to Washington today.

The suicide attack at Kabul airport’s entrance gate in 2021, during the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan, killed 170 Afghan civilians and 13 American soldiers.
