Gulbuddin Hekmatyar, leader of the Hezb-e-Islami party, has expressed deep concerns over Afghanistan’s current situation under Taliban rule, describing the country’s future as “dark.” He asserted that Afghanistan is not moving in the “right direction,” and that its people are increasingly worried about what lies ahead.
Hekmatyar made these remarks in a video statement, which was released today, Monday, by media outlets affiliated with Hezb-e-Islami. In his statement, he highlighted the deteriorating security situation, noting that certain groups are on high alert, with their “fingers on the trigger.” He added that attacks occur daily across different parts of Afghanistan, and many citizens are actively seeking ways to flee the country.
The Hezb-e-Islami leader further emphasized the urgent need for a “lawful government” in Afghanistan—one that operates with clear responsibilities. “Unfortunately, there is currently no national charter or constitution, and this gap must be addressed,” he stated.
Hekmatyar pointed to Afghanistan’s ongoing security threats and broader challenges, stating that the country needs a strong leadership that can ensure a brighter and more stable future. He stressed that without a solid legal framework, Afghanistan cannot achieve lasting stability and progress.
Describing the country’s current situation as deeply concerning, Hekmatyar called for fundamental reforms and the establishment of an effective, accountable government that can address the people’s concerns and overcome security and economic challenges.
These remarks come at a time when the Taliban, after seizing control of Kabul in 2021, continue to govern the country. However, many Afghan citizens remain dissatisfied with the prevailing political and security conditions and fear for the future of their nation.
