German Chancellor Olaf Scholz has emphasized that Europe must pursue a path of unity and independence, ahead of an emergency summit of European leaders in Paris. The summit has been convened to address concerns over the United States’ decreasing willingness to involve Europe in decision-making regarding the war in Ukraine.

According to reports, the leaders of France, the United Kingdom, Denmark, Poland, Italy, Spain, and the Netherlands, along with senior officials from NATO and the European Union, will discuss changes in U.S. policy toward Ukraine and the security threats facing Europe.

Meanwhile, UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer has stated that Britain is prepared to take a leadership role in Europe’s defense efforts. He has also urged Germany and France to increase their defense spending, arguing that Europe must strengthen its military posture to confront emerging security challenges.
