Pete Hegseth, the U.S. Secretary of Defense, has announced that the U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan will be reviewed to determine what mistakes were made and why no one has been held accountable thus far.

According to a report by Fox News, Hegseth raised this issue during a meeting with Pentagon staff, emphasizing that his goal is not to seek revenge or conduct a retrospective blame game, but to understand what problems led to the chaotic U.S. withdrawal from Afghanistan. He stated they need to know why this process went wrong and why there has been no accountability for it.

The U.S. Defense Secretary also stressed that the hasty withdrawal from Afghanistan projected a weak image of the United States on the global stage. This comes amid continued criticism from Donald Trump and other former U.S. officials, who have repeatedly blamed Joe Biden for mishandling the withdrawal from Afghanistan.
