Amid rising concerns over the suspension of foreign aid and its impact on Afghanistan’s economic situation, the Taliban administration has declared that the country’s budget is domestically funded and not reliant on foreign assistance.
In a statement on social media platform X, Zabihullah Mujahid, the Taliban’s spokesperson, assured government employees that their salaries would be paid this month (Dalw) as scheduled. He stated:
“The Ministry of Finance has assured that the salaries of all 1.04 million employees of the Islamic Emirate [Taliban] will be paid, and there is no reason for concern.”
Mujahid further emphasized that Afghanistan’s budget is entirely self-sufficient and has no dependence on foreign aid.
This announcement comes shortly after the United States officially suspended all financial assistance to Afghanistan. The decision has heightened concerns regarding the Taliban’s ability to cover government expenses and prevent an economic crisis in the country.
