Masoud Pezeshkian, President of Iran, emphasized that stability in Afghanistan is aligned with Iran’s interests during an official visit to Tajikistan. Speaking at a joint press conference with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon, Pezeshkian stated that, as a neighboring country, Iran sees Afghanistan’s growth and stability as mutually beneficial. He also described border security as a vital priority for the Islamic Republic of Iran.

President Rahmon echoed these sentiments, stressing the importance of supporting peace and stability in Afghanistan. He added that Tajikistan has consistently worked to assist the Afghan people and coordinate humanitarian efforts.

While Iran’s economic and political ties with the Taliban have significantly strengthened since their rise to power, Tajikistan remains wary of the group’s influence. Tajik officials are particularly concerned about the potential infiltration of Islamist insurgents into their territory.
