Washington, United States – Anna Paulina Luna, a member of the US House of Representatives, strongly criticized the cash aid being sent by the United States to Afghanistan under Taliban rule, emphasizing that “Terrorists should not receive a single penny from American taxpayers.”
Luna posted on her account on the platform X that they are sending $40 million a week to the Taliban, the same group that threatens security and sovereignty.
The congresswoman expressed her support for a bill titled “No Tax Dollars for Terrorists Act,” introduced by Representative Tim Burchett. The bill is aimed at preventing US taxpayer resources from being transferred to groups designated as terrorists.
Luna further stressed that passing this bill is a necessary step to stop “funding America’s enemies” and added that they cannot protect their national security while providing financial aid to those who openly threaten them.
Her remarks come amid reports of US government cash shipments to Afghanistan under the guise of humanitarian aid. Critics, including Luna, argue that these funds may directly end up in the hands of the Taliban and could be used to consolidate their power or suppress the Afghan people.
On the other hand, human rights activists and humanitarian organizations have warned that cutting off aid entirely could worsen the plight of the Afghan people, especially women and children. However, supporters of the bill insist that no aid should pass through the Taliban, and alternative mechanisms for delivering humanitarian assistance must be explored.
