In a deadly suicide attack by the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) targeting a Pakistani military convoy in the Turbat region of Balochistan, at least five soldiers were killed and 56 others injured. Dr. Amjad Mirza, an eyewitness, wrote on his social media account: “Several Pakistani soldiers burned alive in the attack. The sky turned orange due to the towering flames from the burning vehicles.”

The Baloch Liberation Army released images and videos of the attack, claiming that the actual death toll was higher than official reports suggest.

This incident comes as Pakistan grapples with an increasing wave of insurgent attacks, particularly in Balochistan, a region that has long been a hotspot for militant activity.

According to reports from the Pakistan Center for Security Studies, Balochistan was the second-most insecure province in the country in 2024, after Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, with 782 fatalities reported from insurgent attacks throughout the year.

Pakistani government officials have strongly condemned the attack, vowing to intensify efforts to curb insurgency in the region. However, with mounting instability, questions are being raised about Islamabad’s ability to effectively address the persistent challenges posed by insurgent groups like the BLA.
