Amrullah Saleh, the former vice president of Afghanistan under President Ashraf Ghani, criticized the Taliban in response to Pakistan’s airstrikes on Afghan soil. He accused the Taliban of shattering the unity of the Afghan people under the banners of “Emirate” and “Republic.”

Saleh emphasized the need for unity and solidarity among Afghans during such critical times. In a post on X (formerly Twitter), he wrote: “What Afghanistan could have had was the unity of its people, which the Taliban dismantled through deceit and division, labeling them Pashto and Farsi speakers, Republican and Emirate supporters, Northern and Southern, school-educated and madrasa-trained, Shia and Sunni.”

He further stated that the disunity among Afghans has been one of Pakistan’s strategic goals, a goal the Taliban have successfully realized.

This criticism comes as the Taliban’s governance under the banner of the “Emirate” continues to draw widespread condemnation. Critics argue that the Taliban’s structure excludes all but its own members from leadership positions, disregarding calls from international organizations and countries for an inclusive government in Afghanistan.
