Bashar al-Assad, President of Syria, has accused the United States and its Western allies of plotting a new scheme to partition Syria, following recent developments in the country.

Al-Assad made these remarks on Monday, December 2, during a phone call with Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian. According to Iranian media, al-Assad alleged that Western nations are attempting to divide Syria and redraw the map of the Middle East.

Iran’s state news agency, IRNA, quoted al-Assad, stating: “The [terrorist activities] in northern Syria are part of [American and Zionist plans] to partition Syria and establish a state in the north with [Israel and the U.S.] as the main actors.” Iranian media also reported that Masoud Pezeshkian reaffirmed Iran’s continued support for the Syrian government during the conversation.

Meanwhile, the latest reports indicate that armed groups opposing Bashar al-Assad’s regime have positioned themselves just seven kilometers from the city of Hama and are reportedly planning a surprise attack to gain full control of the city. Despite heavy airstrikes by Syrian and Russian forces on opposition positions, reports suggest that the armed opposition forces continue to make progress.
