Karen Decker, the U.S. Chargé d’Affaires for Afghanistan operating from Doha, emphasized in a message on International Education Week that the Taliban’s restrictions on women and girls jeopardize Afghanistan’s future and deprive them of their role in society.
On Wednesday, November 20, Decker wrote on her X (formerly Twitter) account that the United States strongly supports equal access to education in Afghanistan.
Highlighting the importance of women’s and girls’ education, she stated, “Afghanistan cannot achieve progress and self-sufficiency without the participation of women and girls.”
It is noteworthy that the Taliban have restricted girls’ education in Afghanistan for over three years, creating a significant barrier to the country’s human and social development.
Karen Decker’s message once again brings attention to the global urgency of restoring the fundamental rights of Afghan women and girls, particularly in education.
