Kabul – Tarz Press: Mullah Haibatullah, the leader of the Taliban, has summoned his cabinet to Kandahar for a special session. While the specific agenda is still unclear, sources indicate that the meeting may address recent political and economic issues facing Afghanistan.
A source confirmed to Tarz Press on Tuesday, November 5, that Mullah Haibatullah is likely to emphasize the implementation of his previously issued decrees, particularly those imposing restrictions on women and media.
However, some Taliban officials reportedly disagree with Mullah Haibatullah’s strict policies, though they have yet to openly express opposition. Previously, The New York Times reported that Sirajuddin Haqqani, the Taliban’s Interior Minister and influential head of the Haqqani Network, strongly opposes these hardline decrees from Mullah Haibatullah.
Following this report, Zalmay Khalilzad, the former U.S. special representative for Afghanistan, stated that Mullah Baradar, the Taliban’s Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs, and Mullah Yaqoob, the Taliban’s Defense Minister, are also among those who oppose these directives and wish to engage with the international community.
The recent stringent decrees from Mullah Haibatullah regarding women and media have sparked significant global criticism, with more than twenty countries reportedly preparing to submit a formal complaint to the International Criminal Court in The Hague.
