Tarz Press: Recent polls reveal that immigration has emerged as a central issue in the 2024 U.S. presidential election, particularly for Republican voters, who place greater emphasis on the topic.
Donald Trump, the Republican candidate, has made immigration one of the primary tools to criticize his Democratic opponent, Kamala Harris. According to a Gallup poll, 63% of Republicans consider immigration to be “very important” for their voting decision, making it their second-highest priority after the economy. In contrast, only 23% of Democrats view immigration as a very important issue.
Trump, the former president, recently lashed out at current immigration policies, describing the U.S. as the “world’s garbage can,” claiming that the influx of migrants poses a threat to American urban structures. He argues that illegal immigrants are “taking over cities” and “poisoning” the country’s culture, fundamentally altering American life. Trump has also promised that, if elected, he will prioritize the mass deportation of illegal immigrants and revoke special protections for groups such as Haitian migrants.
On the other hand, Kamala Harris, the Democratic vice president and presidential candidate, has criticized Trump, accusing him of obstructing the passage of a bipartisan border security bill. According to Harris’s campaign team, this bill, which was under discussion in the Senate with input from both parties, was blocked by Trump’s efforts to gain political leverage. Harris asserts that this obstruction was aimed solely at undermining the Democrats.
The U.S. presidential election will take place on Tuesday, November 5, 2024, and the winner will begin their four-year term in January 2025.
