Local sources have reported that approximately 150 Afghan migrants were either killed or injured last night as a result of gunfire once again by Iranian border guards.
Eyewitnesses from the area shared images of the incident, stating that the shooting took place in the Kelgan area of Saravan, Iran. Iranian news agency Halvash reported that the group consisted of around 150 Afghan migrants, all of whom were either killed or wounded.
Details of the event remain unclear, and Iranian officials have yet to provide any clarification on the matter. Halvash, a local news outlet covering regional events, also reported that some of the Afghan migrants were killed, injured, or went missing following an explosion of a landmine, which was followed by gunfire from Iranian border guards.
Meanwhile, Abdul Rahman Rashid, Deputy Minister for Refugees under the Taliban administration, announced that the results of an investigation into the previous shooting by Iranian border guards against Afghan migrants would be released soon. He also remarked that the reports of shootings targeting Afghan migrants were part of an attempt by the media to create “mistrust and discord” between the governments of Iran and the Taliban.
