Tarz Press: Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai has expressed his full support for the Jirga held in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, calling it a significant step towards resolving the region’s issues.
Karzai made these remarks on Monday, October 14, via his X (formerly Twitter) account, and also expressed gratitude to Manzoor Pashteen, leader of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement (PTM), for advocating the reopening of girls’ schools in Afghanistan.
He praised the Jirga as “a valuable historical tradition” and “an effective method” for addressing problems. Karzai added, “The widespread participation of women in the Khyber Jirga and the emphasis on the importance of education show that the people of the region are seeking peace and a civilized life.”
Karzai thanked Pashteen and the elders and people for their continuous efforts in organizing the Jirga.
The Pashtun Tribal Jirga in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa concluded on October 13 after three days of discussions. Manzoor Pashteen read out the Jirga’s resolution, with the first demand being the withdrawal of Pakistani military forces, the Tehrik-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), and ISIS from Pashtun areas within 60 days. The Jirga also decided that the Torkham border and the Durand Line should be reopened for Pashtuns on both sides, eliminating the need for visas.
