Tarz Press: Mohammad Haneef Atmar, former Foreign Minister of Afghanistan, has stated that Pakistan fears the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement’s (PTM) plans to hold a Loya Jirga (Grand Council).
Atmar made these remarks on Tuesday, October 8, in response to Pakistan’s recent ban on PTM. In a post on X, Atmar wrote that the prohibition and suppression of PTM’s activities reflect “oppression and lack of accountability” by the Pakistani government. He added that for decades, Pashtuns on both sides of the Durand Line have lived in hope of achieving peace, security, and basic rights.
According to Atmar, all Pashtun regions on the other side of the Durand Line have been turned into a “battlefield of terrorism and the war against terrorism” by the Pakistani government. The former minister wrote, “We condemn these actions and stand firmly with our people on both sides of the Durand Line for freedom, peace, security, human rights, and prosperity.”
Pakistan announced on Sunday that PTM had been added to the list of banned organizations, declaring all of its activities illegal. Meanwhile, the PTM is planning to hold a Loya Jirga on October 11.
