Tarz Press: The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that the Moscow conference on Afghanistan is an effort to engage with Kabul in various sectors.
This conference is scheduled to take place tomorrow, Friday, October 4, with the participation of regional countries and foreign ministers in Moscow. Amir Khan Muttaqi, the Taliban’s Foreign Minister, has also arrived in Moscow to attend the conference. Maria Zakharova, the spokesperson for the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said on Wednesday that Mr. Muttaqi will be a special guest at the conference. She added that the Moscow conference on Afghanistan is an attempt to engage with Kabul on multiple fronts. However, no country in the world, including Russia, has officially recognized the Taliban.
Russia had previously stated its intention to expand relations with the Taliban as the rulers of Afghanistan. On the other hand, the Taliban are still listed as a terrorist group in Russia. Recently, Russian officials announced that removing the Taliban from this list would require amendments to Russian law, making it unlikely for the group to be delisted anytime soon.
