Afghan citizens, reacting to the deadly ISIS attack on civilians in Daikundi province, say that the Taliban are incapable of providing security in Afghanistan and are worried about their personal safety.
Tarz Press—This deadly attack occurred on Thursday, September 13, around 1:00 PM in the "Qaryo Dal" area on the border between Daikundi and Ghor provinces. Sources told Tarz Press that 14 people were killed and 6 others were injured in the attack. However, ISIS, claiming responsibility for the attack, announced that they had killed 15 people.
The incident has generated widespread reactions both inside and outside the country. The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) has asked the Taliban to be accountable in this matter. The Taliban also announced yesterday that they consider the protection of people's lives and property as their duty and are searching for the perpetrators of this attack. However, Kabul residents told Tarz Press that they view the Taliban's efforts in fighting ISIS as unsuccessful.
Several Kabul residents, on Saturday, September 15, in telephone conversations with Tarz Press, claimed that while the Taliban assert they are ensuring security in Afghanistan, the ISIS group grows stronger every day and causes major disasters.
Qorban Ali, a resident of the Dasht-e Barchi area in Kabul, told Tarz Press that the incident shocked him and that he doesn't understand why followers of the Shia sect are being killed in Afghanistan. Qorban Ali added, "The Taliban claim to ensure security, but incidents like this 'Daikundi event' occur, putting thousands of families in mourning." He called on the Taliban to find the perpetrators of this incident and to ensure the security of Afghans, especially the "Hazara people."
Mohammad Hosseini, another resident of the area, said that the Taliban have always assured people that they would establish security, but according to him, this is the umpteenth time attacks against Hazara individuals have occurred, and the Taliban cannot prevent them. He added that in Kabul as well, ISIS has managed to organize attacks multiple times.
Alireza Karbalai, another community elder in Kabul's Arya Township, said that during the previous government, they were also attacked, and now they are still not safe. He added that many Hazara residents are worried about how they can protect themselves and their families. This community elder, referring to the Taliban's fight against ISIS, said that this struggle has so far been unsuccessful and, according to him, has had no effect on ISIS's activities.
Meanwhile, the United Nations and international communities have repeatedly stated that the ISIS group has grown stronger in Afghanistan and that the Taliban have failed to control and combat this group.
