An Iranian official has stated that European countries are seeking to expand their relations with the Taliban, following the removal of Afghan diplomatic missions from former ambassadors.
Seyed Rasoul Mousavi, an assistant at the Iranian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made these remarks on Monday, September 9, in a post on his X page. He mentioned that the successive removal of Afghan diplomatic missions from the control of former ambassadors indicates that European countries are getting closer to Kabul. Mousavi added in his tweet that "European countries, with this move, are looking to establish and further develop relations with the Taliban."
This comes as the Afghan Embassy in London recently announced that its doors will be closed at the request of the host country. A reliable source from the Afghan Embassy in London confirmed to Tarz Press that this move was made to hand over the embassy to the Taliban, coordinated with the Taliban government. Earlier, reports also emerged about the closure of Afghan diplomatic missions in Berlin and Bonn, Germany.
