Suhail Shaheen, the head of the Taliban's political office in Qatar, stated that the Taliban are striving for good relations with the Russian government, a goal that was impossible under the previous administration.

Tarz Press – Shaheen made these remarks in a recent interview with RIA Novosti, an international Russian news agency, on Saturday, August 17th. He explained that the close ties between the former Afghan government leaders and the United States made it impossible to improve relations between Kabul and Moscow in the past. Shaheen added that now is the right time to enhance and develop these relations. In the interview, he suggested that delegations from Moscow and Kabul should hold regular meetings and direct discussions to further improve these relations.

This comes after Russian President Vladimir Putin recently referred to the Taliban as allies in the fight against terrorism during the Shanghai Cooperation Organization summit. While Russia has not officially recognized the Taliban, it has consistently stated that maintaining relations with them is essential given their control of power in Afghanistan.
