Former Afghan President Hamid Karzai has stated that reopening schools and universities for Afghan girls is essential for the bright future of Afghanistan.

The former president made these remarks during a meeting with the Sasakawa Peace Foundation of Japan, led by Tadamichi Yamamoto. Karzai mentioned on his X account that Takayoshi Kuromiya, the Japanese ambassador to Afghanistan, was also present at the meeting, and he expressed his gratitude for Japan's cooperation with the Afghan people. On the former Afghan president's X account, it was stated: "The former president emphasized that educating the youth of Afghanistan, especially girls, is crucial for the prosperity and bright future of Afghanistan, and he stressed the need to reopen schools and universities for girls in the country."
For nearly three years, the Taliban have closed schools to female students above the seventh grade and have not responded positively to repeated requests from international organizations, including human rights groups. Political analysts believe that the Taliban are using Afghan girls as a tool to pressure the international community into recognizing their government, but this strategy appears to have yielded no benefits so far.
