Following the release of images depicting physical and harsh treatment of Afghan refugees in Iran, human rights organizations and defenders have reacted strongly, calling for an immediate end to the mistreatment and humiliation of Afghans in Iran.
According to Tarz Press, a recent video circulating on social media shows Afghan refugees being subjected to humiliation, insults, beatings, and even physical abuse. The Human Rights Defenders Plus (HDR+) has recently urged the international community and the United Nations to break their silence and put an end to the mistreatment of Afghans in Iran as soon as possible. The statement from HDR+ says, "Recently, distressing and shocking reports about the situation of Afghan migrants and refugees in Iran has affected the morale of the people of Afghanistan and the global humanitarian community."
Human rights defenders have also called on the Iranian government to take serious action against the offenders and to ensure justice in the Muslim society of Iran. The Iranian government has not yet commented on the matter.
