Asma al-Assad, the wife of deposed Syrian President Bashar al-Assad, has broken her long silence and indirectly distanced herself from some of her husband’s decisions by posting a message on the “X” platform.
The Russia Today (RT) television network reshared Asma al-Assad’s post, in which she stated:
“Over the years, I have always remained silent on political matters, and I will continue to refrain from any involvement in this area in the future.” She further added: “Everyone has their own path, and some of these paths were never my choice.”
Her remarks have sparked criticism from opponents, who argue that she remained silent during Bashar al-Assad’s rule and is only now trying to distance herself. Critics have questioned why she did not make such statements when her husband was in power.
So far, Asma al-Assad has not responded to the backlash or issued any further clarifications regarding her remarks.
