Tarz Press - Mohsen Rezaei, a member of Iran’s Expediency Discernment Council, stated in recent remarks that the Islamic Republic's government will avoid taking hasty action against Israel.
A day prior, he had emphasized that a strong response to Israel was a top priority for the government, and that Tehran would soon avenge the assassination of Ismail Haniyeh, head of Hamas' political office, by Tel Aviv. However, on Monday, September 23, Rezaei tempered his previous statements by clarifying that there would be no "hasty action." Iranian media quoted him as saying, "We will avoid a hasty action to deliver a firm blow to Netanyahu."
These comments come as the United States has previously warned Tehran, through intermediaries, of the consequences of any attacks on Tel Aviv. The Pentagon announced about two weeks ago that a large warship had been withdrawn from Middle Eastern waters back to the U.S., which could be interpreted as a sign that the threat from Iran towards Israel may be diminishing.
