This year’s Mixed Martial Arts (MMA) competition in Germany took a comical turn with a major scandal. Joshua Homberg, a well-known fighter, was crowned champion—only for the organizing committee to reveal a shocking twist: he wasn’t the one who won.
Investigations showed that Joshua, exhausted from heavy blows in the semifinals, devised a sneaky tactic for the final. He substituted his identical twin brother into the ring, a switch that initially went unnoticed. The lesser-known twin delivered a stunning knockout to defeat the opponent and claim the championship belt. However, referees later spotted a key detail: the “champion” had one fewer tattoo than the real Joshua.
During the award ceremony, the team coach tried to conceal the difference with a towel, but the officials caught on. Video footage revealed Joshua, the actual fighter, entering the ring in a hoodie to celebrate—too late to cover up the ruse.
The incident led to the disqualification of both Joshua and his brother from the competition. It’s now being dubbed “the funniest cheating scandal in MMA history.” The federation president quipped, “If you were going to win, at least make sure your twin has the same tattoos!”
