Amid the chaos following the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s government, with the opposition forces yet to fully assume control, unidentified fighter jets took advantage of the situation and bombed the Mezze area in Damascus as well as an airbase in southern Syria.

Reuters, citing security sources on Sunday, December 8, reported that several embassies, including the Iranian Embassy, the United Nations office, and Syrian security institutions, were located in the targeted Mezze area.

The report also stated that the Khalkhala Air Base in southern Syria was struck by the jets, causing significant damage to military munitions and equipment stored there, including rockets and missiles.

Although the identity of the fighter jets remains unknown, Reuters speculated that they might belong to Israel. However, Israel has not yet commented on the incident.
